Ashburton stud has third win

PA Palmerston’North An Ashburton : Stud sheep breeder, Mr Ivan Oakley, has won his third Royal blue ribbon event at ' the Manawatu -Royal Show. The romney ram hogget, from his small Rinaultre Stud, beat a strong field or rams from throughout New Zealand. No other breeder has won this event three times. Mr Oakley's previous two successes were when he owned the famous Tresco Stud. On its sale he kept a few sheep and now has 19 stud ewes on his nine-acre farm at Ashburton. The event was a clean sweep for the South Island, the runner-up being bred by W. M. and M. D. Robertson, of Gore. Bain Bros, of Heriot, finished third.

The supreme champion sheep at the Royal show was awarded to a Romney ram from C. and P. Robertson, of the Merryvale stud, Gore. This is the third consecutive year they have won the award, which was judged from about 1300 sheep of all breeds.
