Historic tennis final

NZPA Stockholm Sandy Mayer upset the top seed, Jimmy Connors, 6-3, 63, yesterday to set up an historic final with his brother, Gene, in the $174,000 Stockholm Open tennis championship. Gene, the third seed, neutralised Frank Pfister’s straight-ahead power game

to whip his one-time doubles partner 6-3, 6-2, in the other all-American semi-final earlier in the day. It is the first time that two brothers have reached the final in a grand prix event, but several brothers have played in major championship finals before tennis went open.
