Motor-cycle row

PA Palmerston North The Formula One motorcycling champion, Graeme Crosby, will almost certanly be at Manfield on Sunday, although the argument over the bike he wiil be riding is getting hotter by the minute. Organisers of the Castrol Six Hour race, New Zealand’s premier motor-cycling event, said last week they were prepared to accept a late entry in the form of a new Kawasaki ZIOOOJ ridden by Crosby. But the Auto Cycle Union (A.C.U.), the New Zealand governing body, had banned

the bike because of the late date it arrived in the country. It was held up for 10 days because of a shipping strike. An appeal against the ban was made, but yesterday the Manfield promoter, Rob Lester, said that the A.C.U. had phoned him to say the ban was continuing. “We are now prepared to review our association with the whole of the motorcycling fraternity and in fact withdraw that association while the present A.C.U. exists,” said Mr Lester.
