Darfield H.S. wins schools’ shooting
Three girls were in the Darfield High School A team of five which won the Canterbury Rifle Association’s secondary schools’ fullbore shooting competition at West Melton. The contest was held over two 300-yard ranges with seven shots counting. Darfield was behind Christchurch Boys’ High School A after the first round, but shot m ore consistently in the second series. Ten teams competed and
an official remarked that the standard had improved from the previous year. Team placings: Darfield A. 311:13. 1; Christchurch Boys’ High School A. 308.18. 2: Christchurch Boys’ High School B. 304.16. 3: Ashburton. 298.8. 4; Christ’s College. 295.14. 5: St Andrew’s A. 285.5. 6. Darfield B. 280.9. 7: St Andrew’s B. 267.3. 8: St Bede's. 261.7, 9; Papanui. 247.1. 10. The top individual marksman was R. Gibson (Christchurch Boys’ High School) with a total of 67.6. Two Darfield shooters. A. Patterson and G. Smith, were next with 66.4 and 65.6. respectively.
