Repeat bowls win for Lex Kimber

Linwood’s New Zealand women’s bowls representative, Lex Kimber, won the Christchurch centre triples for the second successive year when she beat Enid Edyvean (Christchurch-Rich-mond), 21-14, in the final at Burwood yesterday. Mrs Kimber’s team of Elsie Williams and Gwen Kelly was unchanged from last year and the win was the fourth in as many years by a Linwood entry. Mrs Edyvean, whose partners were Neta Mundy and Betty Smith, got off to a good start in the final and at 9-4 up after eight ends she looked a potential winner. However, the Linwood team got back into the game with a four — Mrs Kelly being especially effective in

this period. — and after 15 ends the scores were level at 11-11. The Christchurch-Rich-mond combination had very little luck’ over the next few ends and Mrs Edyvean, herself, played some excellent shots for disappointing results. But for the last three ends of the 21-end final Mrs Kimber had few worries, her front pair being very steady. Yesterday’s earlier results were:— Quarter-finals: D. Page (Linwood) 14, E. Murdoch (Spreydon) 13; E. Edyvean (ChristchurchRichmond) 14, V. Ferguson (Burwood) 7; R. Falck (Cashmere) 21, B. Immers (Linwood) 9; L. Kimber (Linwood) 11, J. Millard (Shirley) 9. Semi-finals: Mrs Edyvean 24, Mrs Page 8; Mrs Kimber 14, Mrs Falck 7.
