Mini festival next year
A mini arts festival will be staged in Christchurch in March. The festival will feature a number of performers originally booked for the abandoned Christchurch Arts Festival. The main festival was cancelled . because the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council would not give a $20,000 grant. The Southern Regional Arts Council has now decided to give $3500 to help the Festival Society bring some of the scheduled artists to New Zealand.
The grant was approved .only last Saturday and so the festival committee was busily arranging for several well known, singers and musicians to perform, said the director, Mrs Julia Perry, yesterday.
Those invited include a Canadian violinist, Marta Hidy, an American organist, James Johnson; and a New Zealand pianist, Richard Mapp.
