E.E.C vets’ visit again
PA Wellington Common Market veterinary authorities are expected to make another inspection of New Zealand meat works next month. Informal advice of the veterinarians’ visit had been received from Brussels said the director-general of Agriculture and Fisheries (Mr M. L. Cameron) yesterday.
“There are at least 16 new premises to be visited and 15 other plants will be revisited for various reasons, such as facilities which were not working during the E.E.C. team’s visit earlier this year. “Present indications are that three export slaughterhouses, four new meatpacking houses, and one export coldstore will not be
approved for export E.E.C. countries.” Clarification was being sought from the European authorities for their reasons for rejecting these premises, Mr Cameron said. Until there was more information from Brussels, it was not possible to comment on the chances of defects being remedied before the E.E.C. team returned.
