N.Z. ‘out in cold’

PA Dunedin New Zealand is a Third World country with First World aspirations, says the Deputy Leader of the’Social Credit League. Mr G. T. Knapp.

The country’s smallness and insignificance gave it an "unparalleled flexibility in foreign policy." he said’ Releasing Social Credit’s foreign affairs policy. Mr Knapp told the Institute of International Affairs that New Zealand was increasingly finding itself “out in the cold of the Third World." "It is there that we should look for our friends — other nations similarly placed and on equal terms." he said.

"It is up to us to. as far as possible, to shape our own destiny while we. still have some choice.

"Our only real option is to use our resources, our unique position, in the best way to promote our own security." he said.

Social Credit proposes no significant change in foreign policy, but Mr Knapp said that one of the first acts bf a Social Credit government would be to institute a review of foreign policy and defence.

The review, leading to a White Paper, would involve as many New Zealanders as possible, in groups and individually.
