Mining licence hearing
PA Wellington A declaration that a mining licence granted by the Minister of Energy (Mr
Birch) to the Kanieri Gold Dredging. Ltd, was ultra vires the Mining Act was sought in the High Court at Wellington yesterday. The hearing is before the Chief Justice, Sir Ronald Davison, and is expected to take most of this week. The declaration is sought by Kopara Sawmilling, Ltd.
the Westland Conservation and Development Association, and the West Coast province of Federated Farmers. The Minister, Mr William Francis Birch, is named as first respondent, Kanieri Gold Dredging, Ltd, second respondent, and the Planning Tribunal, third respondent.
