Pelter trials delayed
PA Nelson Engineering problems have delayed the trial of a new automatic pelting machine at the Stoke freezing works of Waitaki N.Z. Refrigerating, Ltd. The pelting device, part of the new technology planned for New Zealand works, was to begin a year’s trial yesterday after agreement by workers at the Stoke plant. - “It will now be Wednesday at the earliest, probably Thursday because of engineering problems,” said the works manager, Mr Barry Johnston, yesterday. "Some of the machinery was not fitted as it should have been,” he said. The $70,000 machine, developed for the New Zealand Freezing Companies’ Association, has already been installed at the works. It is not known yet how many men’s jobs could be replaced by the seven-tonne pelter which stands four metres high.
