Gymnast retires

PA Dunedin Kerry Dougherty, New Zealand’s leading rhythmical gymnast, yesterday announced her retirement from competition at all levels. Miss Dougherty, aged 18, who returned from the World Games in Munich at the week-end, said she had decided to retire from the sport to attend Teachers’ Training

College. She returned from Munich disillusioned with what she described as biased judging at the Games, but she said this had not been a factor in her decision to retire. The New Zealand team finished eighteenth from 21 countries in the group event and Miss Dougherty finished sixty-fifth from 85 competitors in the individual event.
