Stead’s double
David Stead, the Canterbury cricket all-rounder, had a good double with the bat and ball when Graham Dowling’s XI had a comfortable win over John Ward's XI in the annual match at Timaru on Sunday. John Ward’s XI 127/9 decl. (J. Varcoe 27. L. Williams 21, B. Ward 17, A. Bligh 16: D. W. Stead 4/31; S. Bateman 2 16. C. H. Thiele 2 11. S. McNally 1/21) lost to Graham Dowlings XI 128/3 (R. T. Latham 51 not out. Stead 39 not out; H. King 1/11, J. Davidson 2 1 i7).
