Hagley High School
Sir,—There are many important reasons why Hagley should continue to serve as an educational centre for secondary education, catering as it does for some 2200 young adolescents and adults in both day and evening classes. It is a short-sighted, unrealistic suggestion by the authorities that these students be absorbed in other schools. If that is the thinking of the Government then it is high time Caucus, and local M.P.s, visited Hagley to learn, for themselves just what a wide spectrum of community education is covered and the impact on the whole community. A high percentage of adult students use the excellent creche, without which mothers would be deprived the opportunity of the education they seek. A former board member, and former chairman, I have first-hand knowledge of the battle we had to persuade a
reluctant authority of the necessity for this amenity; so I cannot see the Government agreeing to provide creche facilities to a multiple of other schools to accommodate those otherwise deprived parents. — Yours, etc., H. R. PEERS. October 29. 1981.
