Atlantic air fares cut

NZPA London Cuts of up to 66 per cent in tourist fares across the Atlantic from today have been approved by the British Government and the Civil Aviation Authority in the face of behind-the-scenes protests by the cut-prize pioneer, Sir Freddie Laker. The cuts mean that three big airlines — British Airways, Pan American Airways, and Trans World Airlines — will be able to charge the same fares as

Laker on their numerous Atlantic flights. That will almost certainly take traffic away from Laker flights and add to Sir Freddie’s financial difficulties. Examples of the new fares, with percentage cuts on existing single tourist fares from London, are: NewYork, SNZ27S, 51 per cent down; Los Angeles, SNZ37S, 66 per cent down; Miami, SNZ26B, 57 per cent down; Washington, SNZ433, 31 per cent down.
