Late sport Bill Rogers wins N.S.W. golf open
NZPA Sydney The Texan. Bill Rogers, winged out of Sydney last night $12,600 richer after carrying off the $70,000 N.S.W. Golf Open by three strokes at The Lakes course in Sydney. Despite three bogeys on the back nine, the 30-year-old American, cushioned by his luxurious five-stroke overnight lead, was unchallenged to beat a plucky West Australian. Lyndsay Stephen. Kogers finished with a threeover 76 yesterday to complete the tournament in seven-under 285 (69, 69, 71, 76) and capture his sixth golf title this year. The " amazingly consistent Rogers has won the British Open, The Suntory in Japan, three American tournaments and now the N.S.W. Open. Lyndsay Stephen pocketed his biggest pay cheque of $6860 as runner-up to Rogers. Stephen finished two-under 71 yesterday for a four-round total of fourunder 288. John Lister, of New Zealand had the equal best round of the tournament earlier in the day of five-under 68 after posting "six birdies and a bogey.
