Stewardess looks sound prospect at Kaikoura

By

G. K. YULE

Stewardess, runner-up in three of her four most recent starts, looks set to quit maiden ranks with a win in the Kevin Knowles Memorial, the third leg Of the T.A.B. treble at Kaikoura today. Last Tuesday she looked more than a little unlucky when she failed by a head to overhaul Timely Arrival in the Thelma Memorial at the Akaroa meeting. She became awkwardly placed on the

rails and it was late when she secured an opening along the inner. She finished strongly and just failed. There was merit in the win of Joy Boy at Motukarara last Tuesday as he received a rocky run over the final 800 m. He has been penalised 10m for that victory, but that should not stop him playing a prominent part in the finish. Scotty Del was runner-up to Joy Boy last Tuesday. He looks close to winning form and must be one of the

leading chances in this event. Tact Boyden has shown promise at times at trials and even though she lacks experience a big run is expected. Should she move off on terms with her rivals, she could just about win. Hurricane Command and Colonel Bogey could also add interest to the finish, while a bold run from Vencedora, a colt having his first start, will not be a complete surprise. The Vice-Presidents’ Handicap, for maiden pacers,

and the Kaikoura Cup, are the other legs of this treble. A field of 10 will contest the feature race, with much interest centring on the performances of Hands Down and El Regale, two of five open class pacers in the field. Armalight could improveon her eighth at Addington last Friday, while False Regal could do best of those trying to earn a start in the big $lOO,OOO staying test eight days later.
