Shield for Chch
Christchurch won the interdistricts’ championship at the New Zealand Deaf Sport Convention in Palmerston North recently. Christchurch won the Aotearoa Turi Shield with a total of 29 points — 13 ahead of the runnerup, Auckland. A member of the Christchurch basketball team, Tony McGill, was named the New Zealand deaf "Sportsman of thd Year.” Results were: Golf.—winners: Christchurch (J. Ferguson, D. Armon, H. Agnew, R. Flynn (res.)). Netball.— • winners: Christchurch (E. Downie, coach; S. Thomas, captain; C. Hamlin, N. Cobb, M. Butcher, D. Williams, P. Ferguson, S. Harker
(res.), D. Godman (res.)). Christchurch beat Auckland, 2019; beat Manawatu. Badminton.— Christchurch runners-up. Men: B. Ellis (captain), D. Ruthledge, P. Paling (res.). Women: C. Hamlin, M. Butcher, J. King (res.). Table tennis.—winners: Christchurch (cup holders for 11 years). Women: B. Fechney (capt), A. Bennett, C. Liddicoat, J. Mason (res.). Men: J: Chandler, R. Flynn (capt.), J.
