Permits authorising 1759 new homes were issued last month, compared with 1353 in September, 1980. The latest figure is based on early returns from local authorities and allows for Government work.

Of last month's permits 448 were for flats, compared with the 330 permits in September, 1980, and 1271 were for houses, compared with 1023 the previous September.
