54 bridges restricted

State highways now have 54 restricted bridges, one less than a year ago. But many have been programmed for replacement and the National RoadsBoard expects, a substantial ■ reduction in the number in a year’s time.

Eighteen of the bridges are in -the North Island and 36 of them are in the South Island, including 15 on the West Coast, two in NelsonMarlborough, five in North Canterbury, three in central Canterbury, and two in Mid and South Canterbury.
