Inflation figures
Sir,—The latest inflation figures come as no surprise. The real cause of inflation, the Government’s excessive pumping up of the money supply, has not been stopped. We hear all kinds of excuses from Government and the supposed “cures” from . the party machine, but if we ignore the basic cause then we can continue to expect high inflation figures. As long as the Government continues to spend more money than it collects in revenue or borrows, it must resort to printing, money or creating credit to pay its bills. We must not jbe fooled by policies to control prices or reintroduce subsidies. Rising prices and wages are purely an effect of inflation of the money supply. What we need are politicians with the integrity and honesty to stand up and denounce official “party” monetary policy. The stranglehold that party politics\hasover individual politicians must be broken, and party theory questioned.—Yours, etc., MARTIN STANLEY.' s. October 19, 1981.
