Hanmer groceries

Sir,—For the managers of the grocery shops in Hanmer to say that Graeme Dodd is misinformed, is nonsense. Shoppers compare the prices they pay for. groceries at home and are not interested in maximum retail prices, which are usually much higher. Like most visitors to Hanmer Springs, I find grocery prices are 20 to 30 per cent higher there than in Rangiora or Christchurch. For example, coffee on special is $3.58 per 200 g in Christchurch shops, and in one shop that is its »normal selling price, whereas in Hanmer, it is just on $1 dearer. I could mention many other items, which are similarly over-priced in Hanmer. I am sure many other visitors to Hanmer will continue to bring groceries from home, thereby making considerable savings on grocery bills. — Yours, etc., L. PETERS. October 21, 1981.
