Clemency plea
PA Auckland A jury in the High Court at Auckland has found a man guilty of the murder of a woman who, he said, embarrassed and pestered him. The jury added a plea for clemency to its verdict against Patrick John Moore, aged 53, a sheetmetal worker, of Onehunga, who had pleaded not guilty to a charge of the murder of Ngatai Petronella Tapsell, also known as Bunny Selwyn. Mr Justice Sinclair sentenced Moore to the mandatory term of life imprisonment but said that he had no doubt that the Parole Board would act in accordance with the circumstances of the case and the jury’s recommendation. Moore told the court that he had never intended to kill Miss Tapsell at his flat on the evening of July 5.
