This 45-metre chimney is among the last of the many lofty brick chimneys which once stood in Christchurch. It has been a landmark on Cehtaurus Road since about 1909, when it replaced a circular chimney built in the 1880s. Now it too is doomed. The brickworks of which it was part have been closed, the old circular brick kilns have been demolished and the site, including the chimney, is being cleared for housing.
