Manikato injured

NZPA Melbourne The champion sprinter, Manikato, has broken down and will not race again this spring. . Manikato has a sprained suspensory ligament similar to that suffered by Kingston Town a year ago. He is beleived to have been injured when beaten by Opera Prince in the Chirnside Stakes at Sandown last Wednesday. Mr Mai Seccull. Manikato’s owner, said that the injury had apparently responded to treatment but flared again after trackwork on Tuesday. Veterinary opinion was that Manikato had an evenmoney chance of recovery but would need a long spell. No decision had been made whether the injured limb would be placed in a cast or the horse merely confined to his box, he said. Manikato, with earnings of more than $825,000 is Australia’s second highest stakes winner, behind Kingston Town. _
