Injured men ‘comfortable’
Two young men who were flown to Christchurch hospitals at the week-end in special flights were both in comfortable condition yesterday.
Neville John Tomlin is in the spinal unit of Burwood Hospital after a flight from Invercargill on Friday, and Christopher -Lanauze, aged 19, is in Christchurch Hospital after a flight from the Chatham Islands on Saturday.
Mr Tomlin had badly injured his spine in a motor accident more than a week ago and after a period in Southland Hospital he was flown to Christchurch in a Southern Air Cessna 402.
Mr Lanauze broke a leg in three places when his motorcycle was in collision with a vehicle on Pitt Island. To get to Christchurch he had to endure a two-hour journey in a launch. His stretcher was
left on the deck in the rain because it was too long to fit in the cabin. Once on the main island. Mr Lanauze had a 30-minute journey by four-wheel drive vehicle to the airport, before a three-hour flight by a twinengine Navajo Chieftain from Air Charter Christchurch, Ltd. Two persons injured in motor accidents in Christchurch at the week-end are still seriously ill in Christchurch Hospital. Donna Dearman, aged 16. of Lamorna Road, North New Brighton, suffered head injuries when a car in which she wag travelling struck a pole in Travis Road, Burwood, on Friday evening. Johnathon Black, aged 17. of Gayhurst Road, Shirley, suffered head, chest and internal injuries when his motor-cycle hit a pole ir. Gloucester Street on Saturday evening.
