Searchers find two trampers
PA Blenheim Two Christchurch trampers, a brother and sister, were found by searchers yesterday, after spending an unscheduled night in the bush north of Kaikoura.
Simon Boyd, aged 24, and his sister Carol, aged 16. entered the bush on Friday afternoon, and were reported missing after they failed to take the train back to Christchurch on Sunday evening. Heavy rain in the area led the police to believe that they may have been held up
by swollen rivers. The search involved a light aircraft and two four-man search teams in the Hapuku and Kowhai river areas.
The trampers were found near the Kowhai River at 8 a.m. yesterday. Their food supply and adequate clothing had enabled them to survive an extra night in the bush.
