Business confidence in Dunedin 'undermined’

PA Wellington The Mayor of Dunedin (Mr C. K. Skeggs) has told the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) that business confidence in Dunedin .is being undermined by uncertainty over the planned Aramoana smelter. In a telegram to Mr Muldoon, Mr Skeggs said he was dismayed to hear of the request by the Christchurch City Council for a further delay in reaching agreement on the smelter. “... Continuing uncertainty is undermining business confidence in Dunedin and it is imperative that an early agreement be reached,” he said. “We remind you that the smelter is fully supported by the Dunedin City Council and a majority of Dunedin citizens, and we strongly support any move made by the Government to expedite the project.”
