The ultimate insult
Sir,—l object to C. R. Grant (September 11) implying that cowardice was the reason for the distribution of anti-tour leaflets “under the cover of darkness." Surely he must realise that people. still have to carry out their usual work during the day as in my case, as the mother of three preschoolers. Also I assure him that the proportion of the thousands iwho marched against
the tour and against apartheid) who could spell apartheid or recall Steve Biko and the suffering of blacks, would not differ from the proportion of the entire population of New Zealanders who could do so, as the marchers represented a cross-section of New Zealand society. By implying that, thousands would not have marched if they had to pay $lO each paid, in fact many only paid $6 for embankment as those attending games, he tries further to denigrate their motives. He is obviously unaware of thousands of New Zealanders making regular contributions at collections held at anti-tour rallies.—Yours, etc., CATHY MCPHERSON. September 11. 1981.
