The day in Parliament
Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. It voted, 42-33, to refer to the Privileges Committee a prima facie breach of privilege which occurred on Wednesday evening when members of the public in the public gallery joined in the recitation of the Parliamentary prayer. The report of the Ministry of Energy and the. 1981 Energy Plan were tabled by the Minister of Energy (Mr Birch). The report of the Maori Purposes Fund Board was tabled by the Minister of Maori Affairs (Mr Couch). Members tabled six notices of motion. Ministers answered 17 questions. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. The House resumed the Estimates debate when it sat at 7.30 p.m. It passed the votes of the Police Department, the Earthquake and War Damage Commission, the Government Life Insurance Office, the State Insurance Office, and- the Public Trust Office. The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) was granted the leave of the House to make a personal statement.
The Housing Corporation estimates were being' debated when the House adjourned at 10.26 p.m.
