Morgan’s distinction
From
KEVIN McMENAMIN
Joe Morgan will tomorrow earn the distinction of being the oldest player to face the Springboks on their current tour. At 36, Morgan is believed Iq be a few months older than lan Eliason, the Taranaki prop, who has had the honour up till now. Morgan is in his fifteenth season for North Auckland and tomorrow’s match will be his one hundred and sixtyfifth appearance for the union. Even more remarkably it will be the tenth time that he has played for North Auckland against an overseas team. Morgan, of course, is no stranger to the Springboks. It was his great try in the second test at Bloemfontein in 1976 that helped the All Blacks win that match — their only win of the series — 15-9. Alastair Robinson, the Lincoln College and Canterbury Colts lock of three seasons ago, has also been named for tomorrow's game. The North Auckland team is: David Haynes; Fred Woodman. Michael Gunson, Kawhena Woodman, Joe Morgan, Eddie Dunn, Chris Collier; Neil Ruddall; lan Phillips, Alastair Robinson, Kahu Sutherland, Colin Phillips; Tappy Perkinson. Peter Sloane, (captain), Wayne Neville.
