13-12. but Buller was in with a chance right throughout th< uame. li was tain shield rugby, with the challengers putting in some hard work against a team which was expected to have more than an edge. Buller's points came from
four penalty goals by Les Stewart. Marlborough’s came from a Brian Ford try. a penalty and a dropped goal by Steve Marfeil and a dropped goal by Moses Hapukuku. Marlborough led 6-3 at half-time.
