Labour denies policies pricing
PA Wellington The Labour Party yesterday denied a $3OOO million price tag put on its policies by the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon). Mr Muldoon said in a statement that the cost of Labour’s “extravagant General Election promises" was rising.
“The latest estimate of the cost of these promises is now well over $3OOO million.” he said. “And this does not include any costings for their promises on taxation.”
However. Labour Party spokesmen said the cost of policies which were not selffinancing would be borne by reallocating money, according to priorities, and the policies were designed, to be spread over three years. The spokesman said Mr Muldoon had reached his figure by adding the estimated costs of policies which had not been released and projects which were not even policies, such as the running of two Wellington-Lyttelton ferries.
The Opposition s tax policy is to be released towards the end of this month.
