Buller coal trade $10M?

Japanese buyers will pay $U565.80 a tonne f.o.b. at Lyttelton for Buller export coking coal this year, according to a Japanese industry report. It said that the price, which is 12.5 per cent higher than last year’s, had been linked with the price of Australian Coal Cliff and South Bulli export coking coals at sAusts6 a tonne f.o.b. at Port Kembla. The new price l for Buller coal put the value of this
export trade al nearly ?USIO million. New Zealand will sell 150,000 tonnes of Buller coal this year to the Mitsui Mining Company, Ltd and Mitsubishi Chemical Industries through two trading firms, Marubeni Corporation and C. Itoh and Company, Ltd. A spokesman for Mitsui Mining confirmed that the Buller coal price had been linked with the Australian price but said that this arrangement might be “adjusted” in negotiations with New Zealand State Coal Mines in February or March.
