Bilberry out of action

Bilberry will be out of action for several weeks after fracturing a pedal bone. She received the injury in a gallop at Riccarton when being prepared to resume racing on the first day of the Ashburton meeting. In her three-year-old racing last season the First Consul mare shaped as if she would be a big winner for the Thistoll stable at four years. She won twice at

three years and her placed runs included a fourth in the New Zealand One thousand Guineas. Bilberry was well forward to make a fresh start at the Grand National meeting, but was allowed to miss racing at the Riccarton carnival when the tracks deteriorated. Ned Thistoll, who trains Bilberry in partnership with his son Lloyd, said yesterday he could only hope he will have the First Consul mare fit to resume next February.
