Man stabbed in fight
PA Wellington A Porirua factory worker rushed into a brawl among about 20 Pacific Islanders in a hotel car-park brandishing a big skinning knife, the District Court at Wellington has been told. A man whom he stabbed five times, narrowly missing • the kidneys and leaving him with a collapsed lung and ■head wounds, spent 17 days in hospital. Pio Tuimavave, aged 21, who pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to’injure, was convicted and remanded to September 3 by Judge McKerr. Detective Sergeant J. K. Hall said that Tuimavave had been seen to rush at the complainant and stab and slash him in the chest and back. The incident had been seen by a Porirua detective, who had apprehended Tuimavave almost immediately. Medical staff had said that the complainant was not expected to suffer any significant disfigurement or permanent disability as a result of his wounds.
