New contractor for Waimairi rubbish
The Christchurch firm of Hack and Sons will take over the Waimairi County Council rubbish collection contract on Monday. The firm will take over from Mogal Bin Service, the original contractor. Mogal withdrew last week after a nine-week, dispute when the Federation of Labour and the council reached agreement. Six of the seven former, council lifters have accepted a redundancy agreement worked out between the Labourers’ Union and the council. The County Engineer, Mr A. J. W. Lamb, said that Hack and Sons would continue the work at the same price as Mogal.
f The general manager of • Mogal Bin Service, Mr 1 James McNaughton, said t from Auckland that there was no legal connection between Hack and Sons and p Mogal. , “Hack is buying the truck 1 from us and we are dipping 0 out,” he said. s Mr McNaughton said that .. Mogal had bought some of r. Hack’s plant and equipment 1 in April and agreed with Mr t Hack that Mogal could use j Hack and Sons' telephone i number and stationery for three months. He said that Mogal Bin t Service was a New Zealand company and would continue ; to work in Christchurch as well as other centres.
D. D. Hack and Sons is a limited liability private company with $lO,OOO share capital, registered in Christchurch in 1977. Mr Hack is the principal shareholder and governing director. The only other shareholder listed in the Companies Office file is Mrs Hack. Hack and Sons was not one of the original nine companies that -tendered for• the Waimairi rubbish contract, and this has upset at least one of the other tenderers, Mr Kevin McGrath, owner of Kevin's Bin Hire. He said yesterday that he would see his lawyer today about the contract.
“To say that I am not very happy is an understatement,” he said.
