Compensation for Collett

Jim Collett resumed his role as stable rider for the Jones stable yesterday with a successful result in the Hinds Maiden. Mon Anchor appeared to be struggling to stay in touch on the home turn but finished the race like a coming stayer, and won by three parts of a length from Nyrak. whose late charge carried him past Watese. Mon Anchor was purchased as a yearling at Trentham by Mr Charlie Pateman. but is raced on lease by Peter Jones who

plans to run him in the Dunedin Guineas. Soaring High earned favouritism for the John Grigg Stakes on Saturday when he finished gamely for a win against the sprinters in the DB Flying Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. Mrs Pat Corboy's homebred Sovereign Eagle gelding responded to vigorous handling from Danny Frye to cut down the pacemaker, Sharebroker. close to home and win by three parts of a length. This was soaring High's

fifth win, but he was in blinkers for the first time when he triumphed yesterday. "Just to make sure he would keep his mind on the job." his Washdyke trainer, Pat Corboy, explained. The Wingatui jockey, Ali Robinson, will ride Soaring High in the Ashburton club's feature race for three-year-olds on Saturday. Sharebroker, winner of the corresponding race last year, saved second in yesterday's race by half a length from the faster-finishing Flying View.

Flying View is eight, but looked and acted chipper yesterday.Aramis also ran the race of an early improver when fourth yesterday. He was no match for his stablemate. Indigod. in training at Riccarton last week, but his run fresh up yesterday held bright promise for his six-year-old programme, which will probably include the New Zealand Cup. Brutus could not find anything in the last 200 of yesterday's 1200 m race and beat only Catastrophe home.
