No move by Skybus for air licence
PA Auckland The Civil Aviation Division had not received an application from Skybus for the approval it had to have before beginning services with Viscount aircraft, said the head of the division. Captain E. T. Kippenberger, yesterday: ■■..■■ The approval required is an Air" - Services Certificate, which applies to the servicing. maintenance, and safety of an aircraft and crew training. Skybus said last week that it did not need an Air Services Licence because of its association with the Piako Aero Club.
■ But Captain Kippenberger said yesterday that it did need the certificate and that the -two approvals (licence and certificate) were separate.
If Skybus planned to begin its first service on September 18. it was leaving its application for a certificate very late, he said.
He was not aware of any pepple from British Air-Fer-ries whoywere in Wellington to liaise with the division on the introduction of domestic services.
As far as he was aware, most of the negotiations had been with an Auckland lawyer representing Skybus. Mr Graeme Jenkins. The division’s controller of policy. Mr John KennedyGood, said that the division had also yet to see anything associating the Aqua Avia Society with the Piako Aero Club. ‘
Until this was firmly documented and established. Skybus could not begin its services under a provision of the Air Services Licensing Act which allowed aero clubs associated with the Royal New Zealand Aero Club to carry paying passengers.
A week-end report quoted the secretary of the club, Mr K. W. Davey, as saying that many detailed matters still had to be worked out.
