Neutral karate judge
The' Christchurch Seido Karate club will fly in an independent judge from Australia to control the style’s national kyu grade tournament at the Town Hall on Sunday. Sensei Mervyn Ellis, of Geelong, is a third dan black belt and the leading Seido exponent in Australia. Eight of Seido’s New Zealand branches will be con-
testing the tournament in four weight divisions — under 10 stone, under 11 stone, under 12 stone, over 12 stone. The karate exponents coming to Christchurch from Palmerston North, Te Awamutu, Nelson, Blenheim, Timaru, Twizel, and Dunedin will all be finalists from the various clubs’ own eliminations.
