City Council and tour
Sir,- May I add my support to that of A. Brunt (August 11) regarding the Springbok tour. Our city councillors have certainly gone over their limit in attempting to speak for the citizens of Christchurch. I will certainly be among the many thousands at Lancaster Park. As a ratepayer and also a rugby league referee I usually choose to speak for myself but alas our misguided city fathers have elected.to oeny me of my democratic right. In view of this disgusting procedure I am forced to dissociate myself from the contents of the telegram which was sent to the Springbok manager. In addition. I demand to know who paid for the telegram?—l consider an answer most appropriate please.-Yours, etc..
R. S. KING August 14. 1981.
[Mr J. H. Gray, General Manager and Town Clerk replies: “The telegram was paid for from Council funds.”]
