The. champion Australian galloper. ’Kingstown Town, looks set to beat the tough Western Australian pacer, Pure Steel, to the goal of becoming the first ? millionaire stake-winner -in Australia. .?
Kingstown Town won the $15,000 Premier Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday, bringing his record to 19 wins, two seconds and two thirds from
25 starts. His stake-winnings are now $934,465. Pure Steel, at present being prepared for another camoaign. has won $902,495. His big chance of beating Kingstown Town to the million-dollar mark in winnings might come later in the year should a proposed $200,000 match race with the 1981 Inter-Dominion Championship Grand Final winner, San Simeon, eventuate.
