A week of it

When the Lancaster Park cricket club celebrates its centenary in November, it is not confining its activities to a dinner and a day’s cricket. The programme covers eight days, from November 8 to November 15.

At the end of each day, except the last, there will be a social function in the new

clubrooms in Stevens Street, which will be opened by the Mayor (Mr Hamish Hay) on the first afternoon. There is cricket every day, except the Tuesday, which has been left open for members to watch the New Zealand Trotting Cup race at Addington. One of the evening functions will include “informal narrative” from several speakers and another is a cabaret.

On. Saturday, there will-be a re-enactment of a cricket match of 100 years ago, with teams; from Lancaster Park and. its Sister club in England, Cockfosters. There will be a ball and banquet in the evening. The celebrations will end on Sunday, November. 15, with cricket for schoolboys and schoolgirls, followed by a Maori hangi on the south ground.
