Unrestricted supplies of liquefied petroleum gas for the South Island will be assured with., the . proposed acquisition of. ,a coastal tanker by Liquigas, Ltd. Liquigas has appointed the Shipping Corporation of New Zealand as its agents for the tanker. Mr F. G. The ship, which is expected to cost more than $lO million, was the key unit in giving the South Island the same unrestricted supply of L.P.G. as the North island, said Mr Boddy. After commissioning, the
1 ship will carry L.P.G. from • New Plymouth to Auckland, : Wellington, Lyttelton, and 1.. Dunedin and possibly at a I later date to other depots. The 82-metfe vessel will , be designed to carry about ) ’ 1000 tonnes of L.P.G. , Cargo will Ke carried in three separate fully-pres- . surised tanks. Mr Boddy said that-in this type of vessel the tanks would be protected from damage because they '. would be separate at all points from the hull. The Shipping Corporation would arrange the construci tion with one of a short list . of overseas shipyards which had already showti interest in building the tanker, said Mr Boddy. < A delivery date has not been set yet.
