Court cleared of supporters
PA Auckland The public gallery in the Otahuhu District Court wascleared yesterday after a burst of applause during-ap-pearances by anti-tour protesters. Twenty-seven people appeared on charges of un- • lawfully getting into an Air New Zealand aircraft and ‘ trespassing at the Gateway Lodge and the domestic terminal at Auckland Airport on August 15. The cheering and clapping broke out when a man, aged 24, refused to plead to a ; trespass charge. Judge T.i, R. Gillies remanded the defendant without plea to August 24 on bail of $3OO. Eight people elected trial by jury on charges of unlawfully getting into an Air New Zealand aircraft. They were remanded for the taking of depositions. Of the 15 people charged with trespassing at the Gateway Lodge, six pleaded not guilty and were remanded for hearing. The rest were remanded without plea to August 24. Four people pleaded not guilty to charges of trespassing in the security area of the domestic air • terminal.
They were remanded for hearing to October 20. All the
defendants were granted bail of $3OO. In Dunedin, four people . -appeared before Judge J. D. Stephen Robert Bayliss, > aged 27, an organiser, of ' Christchurch, pleaded not ; guilty to a charge of assault j and was remanded on $3OO I bail to October 7. i Pleas of not-guilty were i entered by Brian Olsen, aged I 21, a tool designer, and Ross I Matthew Forbes, aged 24, a ! student, to charges of dis- j orderly behaviour. They > were remanded on $lOO bail each to October 2 and October 7. respectively.
