Aust. fishermen upset by N.Z.

PA Wellington The Fishing Industry Board will send a representative to Australia to investigate complaints about New Zealand fish exports. Australian fishermen say prices for their own fish are suffering from increasing imports from New Zealand. New Zealand fishermen say exports by New ZealandRussian joint-venture fishermen are undercutting prices received by other New Zealand exporters to Australia. The economics and marketing manager of the board. Mr Russell Armitage, will visit Ausralia to investigate the complaints.

Mr Armitage said the Australian market, the second biggest earner of funds for the New Zealand fishing industry, was too important to be taken for granted. Late in June the board’s manager, Mr N. I. Jarman, said it could find no evidence joint-venture firms were under-cutting other New Zealand fish exports to Australia. But the Federation of Commercial' Fishermen has continued to attack the joint ventures, and an Australian fishing magazine recently criticised the Fletcher-Chal-lenge Russian joint venture for "flooding” the Australian market.
