Air Forces exercise
Helicopter crews from the Air Forces of New Zealand and Australia will begin a training exercise in the Kaikoura mountains today. . Known as Exercise Blackbird, the training will give the crews experience flying at high altitudes in cold temperatures — conditions encountered in alpine rescues.
Three Royal Australian Air Force Iroquois helicopters have been airlifted from Canberra to join Royal New Zealand Air Force Iroquois and Sioux helicopters in the 10-day exercise. ' / •’
