Support for protest

NZPA Lusaka The outlawed African National Congress of South Africa has urged anti-apart-heid activists in New Zealand to intensify their efforts to stop the Springbok Tour. The secretary-general of the congress, Mr Alfred Nzo, in a statement released through the official Zambia news agency, accused the New Zealand Government of hypocrisy in its attitude towards the tour and of reneging on the Gleneagles Agreement.

He was quoted as saying that the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) and his Government had shown tacit approval of the tour by granting visas to the team and spending more than $2 million on police efforts to protect the Springboks.

“We call upon anti-tour activists from all walks of life to intensify their efforts for the cancellation of the tour,” he said.
