Rubbish talks completed
Representatives of the Waimairi County Council and unions involved in the county’s rubbish dispute have completed discussion on manning levels and their findings are now in the hands of an independent chairman, who will prepare a report to be presented to a meeting of the council and the unions in Christchurch on Monday.
A union spokesman. Mr R. A. Lowe, declined to say who the chairman of the representatives was or how successful they had been. He confirmed that the secretary of the Federation of Labour, Mr K. G. Douglas, would attend the meeting on Monday. If no agreement is reached on Monday, the way is still open for the council’s contractor, Mogal Bin Services, to resume rubbish collections.
