High interest in conservation
Growing public interest in the environment is making Conservation Week in Christchurch a bigger success than last year, according to the secretary of the campaign committee. Mrs M. M. Hoare. The nine-day programme will end on Sunday with the Summit Road walk, starting at 9 a.m. from Victoria Park and lasting all day. Mrs Hoare said the organisers were pleased with the public response in spite of
the cold weather. Hundreds of people had taken part in tramps and walks, watched films, visited displays, and taken guided tours round the inner city. Speakers at schools had noticed a threefold increase in the number of interested children compared with last year. Supplies of posters, children's games and bookmarks had all run out. "Some people are already asking about next year," she said.
