Jobs file 'under-used’

The Government has a Women’s Appointment File containing the names of 500 women eager for public sector jobs, but in the last two years, only three vacancies have been filled from the file, says a spokeswoman for the organisation, Ms Nicky Hill.

She said that the file was set up to encourage women to go on statutory boards and

bodies, but its organisers, and the Government spokesman on women's affairs and Minister of Justice (Mr McLay), are concerned that the service is under-used.

Last year the file had been consulted by Ministers, members of Parliament and Government departments on 14 occasions. Two of the inquiries came from Mr McLay.

After 122 nominations and only three appointments in the last two years, Mr McLay had decided to remind his colleagues of the file’s service, Ms Hill said.

The file committee was publicising itself and hoped to extend its service to in-

clude women from every part of New Zealand.
